Energise Sussex Coast (ESC) is a community benefit society based in Hastings, set up to accelerate the transition to a low carbon future through the development of community owned renewable energy generation projects and energy efficiency schemes. The ESC team have an impressive track record over several years of direct support to local residents in tackling fuel poverty through advice, information, access to grants, and innovation programmes.
Co-operative Futures worked closely with the group in its application to the Bright Ideas fund for grant support for an innovative locally-based, community-funded project to put PV panels on the roofs of churches and other religious and community buildings, and generate income to support future work in fuel poverty alleviation. This support helped the ESC team examine a variety of innovative local energy models, offer strategic advice on the practicality and risk of various options, and support a detailed application to the Bright Ideas Fund. The application was successful, giving ESC access to £10k of new funding to take the project forward.
