The Old School is Milton Keynes’s first co-operatively owned community building, and includes community space to hire, a cafe and 3 bedroomed Guest House. After many years of community campaigning and fundraising, the Old School opened its doors to the public in the Spring of 2019.
In 2017 they started the refurbishment and provision of the new community centre, a Grade 2 listed building located in the heart of the community of Old Wolverton. Co-operative Futures supported them to write a business plan to raise grant and loan finance to purchase the building. Following that work we helped to them to launch a community shares issue, thereby helping to secure the support of the community. In total over £750,000 was raised.
